Day’s work – made from watercolor on rice paper, and with pastel, India ink and handmade stamps adhered to canvas, will be on view through September 30.
An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 5-7 p.m.
Day is perhaps best-known for her graphic design, through Ridgway’s Dayzign Graphics. Her outdoor/adventure company and women’s business clients include Chicks with Picks, The North Face, Osprey, Mountain Gear, San Juan Mountain Guides and many more.
More recently the designer has begun to explore mixed media and likens it to her previous life of adventure. “In my twenties, I wanted to learn to ice climb, rock climb and alpine climb, so I could put all the skills together to climb mountains. Now I want to know watercolor, pastel, woodblock, Japanese ink techniques, and more, so I can put them together in mixed media pieces”.
As a mother, the artistic pursuit is more fitting than traveling the world and climbing, although she dreams of traveling with her son when he’s older. For now, the designer is thrilled to have the opportunity and outlet to translate her love of the outdoors into works of art.
“This is my first show,” she says, “and I’d just love for the public to come, have a glass of wine, enjoy the art, and hopefully be inspired!”
