The San Miguel Democratic Party held their reorganization meeting on Saturday morning, Feb. 12. The reorganization is required every two years to elect officers and precinct leaders for the San Miguel Democratic Party. The County Chairman Dick Unruh who has been in the leadership position for over two decades had previously announced his decision not to seek the office of Chairman. Dick commented that while he intends to remain active in the party that it was time for new leadership for the San Miguel Democrats.

Over the past two decades under Chairman Unruh’s leadership the party has been demonstrated a long run of successfully electing Democrats in San Miguel County. This was again evidenced in the 2010 election of Democrats winning every local office on the ballot. The members at the meeting unanimously voted to bestow the lifetime position of Chairman Emeritus upon Dick Unruh for his long for successful service

The new members of the San Miguel County Democratic Central Committee are: Chairman Brian Ahern, 1st Vice Chair Kara Johnson, 2nd Chair Dick Unruh, Secretary John Howe and Treasurer Ken Olson. Precinct leaders include: Richard Betts, Jerry Greene, Salli Russell, Lulu Hunt, Jim Botenhagen, Dan Chancellor, Jonathan Greenspan and Rube Felicelli.
