The highlight of this year’s festival is Friday’s “Show and Glow,” taking place in Ridgway’s Town Park, 5-9 p.m. The evening kicks off with the car show, a live performance by the Strolling Scones (a 60s style band) and a benefit barbecue hosted by the Ouray Elks Lodge. At sunset, the dramatic balloon glow will light up the night sky.
“We invite you to bring the whole family, a folding chair or blanket and enjoy an old fashion evening in the park that anyone can afford,” said organizer Gary Woods. “The staff and sponsors have done their part so now all we ask for and need is a great attendance to make it all work.”
Tickets will be available for purchase to win prizes that include a hot air balloon flight, deluxe lodging, spa sessions, dinner gift certificates from area restaurants, and decorator and functional gift items from local businesses.
Attendees are also invited to help judge the cars on display by voting for the coveted People’s Choice Award.
Balloon launches will be held each morning of the festival, starting at around 6 a.m., weather permitting. On Saturday morning, the classic cars and trucks will be on site with the balloons for a unique photography opportunity. Following Saturday’s balloon launch, the show cars will remain on display until 1 p.m., when awards in several categories will be presented to the winners.
